Family Time
I remember those days as my cousins and me
Would all run up to our grandparents
Hoping that they would give us some money
To attend the church bazaar.
Grandpa would tell us stand in a line.
From small to big, I stood right at the end.
Hands stretched out as grandpa
Leaves each a silver coin in our hands.
We looked amazed because grandpa
Usually just gave us bronze.
We smiled at each other when he'd say:
“You better go now before I change my mind.”
We'd scatter throughout the bedroom door can’t wait
To play on the jumping castles,
Then grandma tells me to keep hold on the
little ones hands.
Smiling we walked until we neared the church.
We'd make a run for various treats,
From candy to cake, cool drinks and popcorn.
What is left was for the games that we would
Be enjoying after our meals.
We see grandma coming along.
As she comes to buy some fruits and vegetables.
Grandma smiles as she hugs each one of us
Sending us back on our merry way.
How lovely was, our family time
Cousins close to one another.
We miss our grandparents, but in our hearts
We carry the tradition to also one day send our
Grand children on their merry way.

This is for my Poetry Potluck 28 , Photographs, Memories and Nostalgia, what better way to write about the childhood memories that you created with your grandparents. I lost both grandparents and this poem came to me one day just remembering those happy times as a child.

Ah sweet memories. I do indeed miss my grandparents. They were wonderful. Thanks for visiting my blog!
At last a poem I can understand and identify with! You invoke memories that tug at heartstrings, making us for a moment a little child filled with anticipation.
Memories that you have captured in this poem can be shared with your family via your writing. Keep sharing. Your family picture connects us with readers family memories and that is what poetry is supposed to do.
